Time To Leave

Today my country voted to leave the European Union. My music isn’t politically motivated at all; but I thought today was as good a time as any to focus on my song Time To Leave.

This song is basically a fantasy I sometimes have of just grabbing my shit, leaving my job and running away to a tropical paradise where I don’t have to worry about the humdrum, dreary day to day living. There’s not a lot more to it than that really!

Unlike the first two songs I posted; this one has a very positive message – slow down, be happy, leave your troubles behind and don’t be an enemy to yourself. I wanted to write a song with a reggae-inspired rhythm for the verses – the overall delivery isn’t overtly reggae but I wanted that kind of feel. Its not my favourite of my songs, but I do like it. I hope you do too!

We’ve gone too far

Way too many street lights that obscure the stars

We’re so obsessed with image and with how we are

Perceived by all the world and so we hide our scars

Now let’s raise the bar

‘Cause life is short

No commodity to be sold or bought

Happiness is not a thing that can be taught

So jump on board

‘Cause everything we feel about our lives is wrong

We should never ever need to be this strong

Grab your things, come over here

We should never need to fear ourselves

Its time to leave

Oh my dear you’ll see

That love of life is freedom, run away with me

Islands in the sun are where we’re meant to be

Shed your clothes and join me in the deep blue sea

And be free

‘Cause everything we feel about our lives is wrong

We should never ever need to be this strong

Grab your things, come over here

We should never need to fear ourselves

Its time to leave

We will leave it all behind

Finally have our peace of mind

No more running the rat race

Or lying awake in the dark, hating who we are

‘Cause we’ll go so far

‘Cause everything we feel about our lives is wrong

We should never ever need to be this strong

Grab your things, come over here

We should never ever fear ourselves

Its time to leave
