A Ghost For Every Road

This is a song that I played with Red Dust Road. The genesis of this song was very simple – one evening I set myself the challenge of writing a complete song in an hour. This song was the result. It has a very simple structure and I feel it will sound much more interesting with full arrangement.

I grew up in a seaside town called Clevedon (its the town that Broadchurch is filmed in, they just changed the town’s name for the show. It has also been used in The Remains Of The Day, Never Let Me Go, Silent Witness, Eastenders, and the pier is the location of One Direction’s video for ‘You & I’). A few years back I moved a few miles down the road to a different town. Every time I visit Clevedon now my mind conjours up so many vivid memories from throughout my life. Each part of the town holds a different memory.

Well I’ve walked these streets so many times

Over the years

I’ve tried to be a good man

But I’ve crossed the line and I’ve thrived on the tears

Well I’ve seen a ghost for every road

And every house

Kept in this memory of mine

As time chips away at the hours

Don’t live your life like mine

‘Cause I’ve been there before and the story’s the same

And time seems to go by so fast

And everything that you have will be gone

Don’t live your life in the past

You only get one so make it last

I’ve shattered the silence, I’ve broken the dark

Its easy to do

Its oh so much harder to let go

Let life make a friend out of you

Don’t fight your whole life through

‘Cause I’ve been there before and the story’s the same

And time seems to go by so fast

And everything that you have will be gone

Don’t live your life in the past

You only get one so make it last

‘Cause I’ve been there before and the story’s the same

And life seems to go by so fast

And everything that you have will be gone

Don’t live your life in the past

You only get one so make it last
